Employee Spotlight: Sylvia Wang
Learn more about Sylvia's career journey as Marketing and Sales Manager at MAT Dalian...
1. When did you start your career with MAT Dalian? How has your position evolved since you started?
I joined MDAP on April 1st, 2015 — so it's been 10 years now. I started as a shipper handling goods delivery to customers. In 2016, I began working concurrently as an Account Manager. Since 2018, I've taken on full responsibility for the sales department.
2. What’s your favourite aspect of the job?
I’ve been part of MDAP’s growth from the very beginning. This job has helped me evolve from someone unfamiliar with automotive parts to someone who can read drawings, explain process flows, and understand cost structures. I enjoy daily communication with different people — each day brings new challenges and learning opportunities. Also, my colleagues are friendly and professional, and our team spirit makes the work environment enjoyable. We have a few social activities throughout the year either during festivals or team dinners, it’s a chance for us all to meet outside of the work setting and enjoy each other’s company.
3. What has your experience been like as a woman working in a male-dominated industry?
At MDAP, while the overall workforce is still mostly male — we have around 280 employees and only 20 to 30 are women — our management is very supportive of women’s roles. In fact, among our 12 department managers, about half are women. I’ve personally found the environment to be fair and respectful. Communication is open and direct, and I think women bring their own strengths — like empathy and adaptability — to the workplace. I’m proud to be part of a company that recognises and supports women in leadership positions.
4. What excites you about the future at MAT Dalian?
I hope to see MDAP continue to improve. A stronger company means better opportunities and a better life for everyone here. I aim to be the communication bridge between our customers and internal teams, and I'm excited to contribute to new projects and opportunities as they arise.
5. When you’re not working, where would we find you?
I spend most of my free time with my family — especially with my energetic two-year-old son. On weekends, we often go to the beach, visit the zoo, or go camping together. It’s tiring but fulfilling!
6. If you could job swap with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
I would love to be an astronaut. Recently, China’s Shenzhou 19 spacecraft returned from a mission, and I found it so inspiring. It would be amazing to fly through space and see views that only a few people in the world ever witness — despite the tough training, it sounds very exciting!
7. Finally, if you could banish something (not someone!) into the furnace for eternity, what would it be and why?
I would banish all viruses! I’m an optimistic person and I dislike sadness or illness. If we could throw viruses into the furnace forever, life would be full of sunshine for everyone.
