Role: Electrical Maintenance Apprentice
Year of Apprenticeship: 4
Tom originally opted for 6th form but quickly found that it wasn’t what he had hoped for from further education. He decided that an apprenticeship offered him a hands-on way of learning and a new challenge.
MAT Foundry Group and its apprenticeship scheme appealed to him because of industry itself and the variety of the work.
Tom describes the apprenticeship as having been an incredible opportunity due to how his work ethic has changed, the opportunities to learn and being part something much bigger than him.
Being part of a team means a lot to Tom and he really wants to do more to help the team grow and improve.
Tom is about to start a degree in engineering through MAT Foundry Group in the third year of which he will specialise in energy and sustainability.
In his spare time Tom can be found on one form of pitch or another being part of hockey, football and cricket teams.
