MAT Foundry Mexico Facility is Officially Open

The sun might be setting on summer 2025, but things are heating up at our new site in Pachuca. Following a resounding success with the inaugural pour, serial production is now in full swing, and the facility is delivering high-quality castings to meet the needs of our valued customers.

Commissioning of the new facility progressed smoothly, with all major systems integrated and running to plan. Early production runs have demonstrated both the precision and reliability of the plant, confirming the site’s readiness to serve key OEM and aftermarket customers across North America.

MFMX 1000X400

At the heart of MAT Foundry Mexico (MFMX) lies a line-up of world-class technology, carefully selected to ensure efficiency, safety and quality at every stage of production:

Foundry Equipment

Furnaces – ABP Induction - Two induction furnaces deliver energy-efficient melting with reduced CO₂ emissions. Equipped with TWIN-POWER® technology, 2:1 furnace to converter allows for power to travel freely between both furnaces, while advanced safety systems, digital converter controls and an eco-friendly flue gas exhaust underline MAT’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Pouring Unit – Pourtech - This automated system minimises waste and improves casting quality by maintaining constant metal levels. Continuous pouring capability enhances productivity, while automated monitoring reduces manual intervention and keeps operators clear of hazardous areas.

Sand Mixer – Savelli - Automated sand preparation and recycling ensures consistent mould quality and reduces waste. High-capacity silos and advanced cooling supports continuous operation with minimal downtime.

Horizontal Molding Line – Savelli - The Formimpress system runs at 120 moulds per hour. High-pressure compaction, brushless motor drives and automated handling deliver uniform density, strong and accurate moulds – at maximum efficiency.

Mould Handling & Shakeout – General Kinematics - Vibra-Drum technology, cooling conveyors and advanced shakeout systems enable gentle conditioning of castings while reclaiming sand efficiently. Vibration-isolated equipment protects the facility and enhances reliability, all controlled by Siemens automation.

Wire Mesh Shotblaster – Pangborn - Heavy-duty blasting technology ensures superior surface finish, short cycle times, safety and flexibility across a wide range of casting types.

Machining Equipment

As well as the foundry, MAT Foundry Mexico operates a fully equipped machining operation, designed to meet the diverse needs of OEM and aftermarket customers.

Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs) and Vertical Machining Centres (VMCs) from Doosan, DMC, Matec, AMS and Scherer deliver precision machining of brake drums and discs. Integrated robotic loading and unloading ensures consistent quality, shorter cycle times and greater efficiency.

Horizontal Machining Centres (HMCs), including dual-spindle models, provide high throughput and accuracy for complex machining requirements.

Dynamic Balancing Systems from Hofmann guarantee optimum performance and safety of brake drums by reducing vibration and ensuring precise weight distribution.

Automated Paint and Rust Inhibitor Systems, including ABB robotic paint cells with drying tunnels and custom coating lines, protect components against corrosion and extend product life.

Dust Collection and Clean Machining Systems from Camfil-Farr maintain a clean, dry environment across machining lines, supporting consistent product quality and safer working conditions.

These investments provide key advantages:

  • Consistent, high-quality machining across OEM and aftermarket parts.
  • Higher productivity and efficiency through automation.
  • Extended product life and performance via advanced coating and balancing processes.
  • Cleaner, safer and more sustainable manufacturing.

Together, these systems create one of the most advanced foundry and machining operations in the region. The 14,380m² purpose-built plant is designed not only to double MAT’s Mexican output but also to set new benchmarks in quality, sustainability and productivity.

Just as important as the technology is the dedication and expertise of our people. This groundbreaking facility would not have been possible without the hard work of our talented team in Mexico, supported by the experience and knowledge of colleagues from across MAT Foundry Group. We are fortunate to have such a depth of foundry expertise within our organisation and would like to give special thanks to everyone involved whose contribution has been central to making this project a success.

This project has shown what can be achieved when expertise, teamwork and innovation come together. MAT Foundry Mexico now stands as the sixth foundry in our global network and will play a vital role in serving our North American customers for many years ahead.
